Gazpromneft Bitumen Materials, operator of the Gazprom Neft bitumens business, has acquired a 75-percent participating interest in the charter capital of NOVA-Brit LLC; the company’s interests include a high-technology bitumen materials plant in Vyazma, Russia. Acquisition of this interest will allow the company to enter what is, for Gazprom Neft, a new market in high-technology bitumen products for road and airfield construction.

The plant, specialising in the production of of road, bridge and airfield mastics, sealants, emulsions and bitumen coupling strips, offers facilities unique to the Russian market. With a total production capacity of 80,000 tonnes per year, the plant’s product range covers 30 different branded items. The plant is equipped with all infrastructure necessary for the production, storage and shipment of premium products, as well as being equipped with its own testing facilities. The company’s own innovative solutions have allowed it to develop its own high-technology bitumen materials, enjoying considerable demand in the construction, repair and maintenance of highways, airfields and other infrastructure facilities.

The domestic market for cutting-edge bitumen materials was estimated at 122,000 tonnes in 2015: high consumption growth is expected to result in an almost two-fold increase by 2025, to 220,000 tonnes.

Anatoly Cherner, Gazprom Neft Deputy CEO for Logistics, Processing and Sales, commented: “The use of innovation in production of petroleum products is a genuine market trend currently, allowing companies to considerably increase their competitive edge. Integrating this new facility will allow the Gazprom Neft bitumens business to further increase its potential in terms of research and development, as well as allowing us to establish a game-changing market niche in high-technology products, ensuring our continued technological leadership of the Russian bitumen-materials market.”
